The conference on power generation insurance will bring together experts in the insurance industry to discuss and exchange knowledge on the technical aspects, underwriting, and claims management of power generation insurance.

The conference will cover a range of topics related to power generation insurance, including the risks associated with 
power generation facilities, the coverage and premium structures for power generation insurance policies, and the claims management process.

Nicholas Sykes
Partner | Clyde & Co Clasis, Singapore Pte. Ltd.

Nicholas Sykes is a Partner at Clyde & Co’s energy insurance practices, specialising in large scale power, oil & gas and renewables insurance claims.

Nicholas brings unrivalled claims experience and thought leadership to local, regional and international markets. He has advised on a diverse range of renewable projects, both offshore and onshore and also has a leading practice in renewable energy insurance.

Nicholas advises clients on complex policy coverage issues and quantum, and acts for clients in negotiations, mediation, arbitration and commercial litigation. Another significant focus for Nicholas are subrogated recoveries for insurers. Nicholas’ cases have involved him managing and conducting substantial litigation / arbitration on behalf of clients in several jurisdictions around the world.

Nicholas has been practising in Singapore for over ten years and acts for insurers across Asia Pacific, particularly those based in Singapore, S.E. Asia, Japan and South Korea. He also advises clients based in the London and European markets.


Sean Chou
Chief Executive Officer, Marsh Insurance Brokers (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd

Since 1 April 2023, Sean Chou assumed the position of Marsh McLennan Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer. Sean is responsible for managing the organisation’s growth while ensuring the delivery of Marsh McLennan Malaysia’s wide range of professional services and advisory solutions to clients of all sizes across Malaysia.

Sean brings with him a wealth of industry experience, both locally and Nicholas advises clients on complex policy coverage issues and quantum, and acts for clients in negotiations, mediation, arbitration and commercial litigation. Another significant focus for Nicholas are subrogated recoveries for insurers. Nicholas’ cases have involved him managing and conducting substantial litigation / arbitration on behalf of clients in several jurisdictions around the world. Nicholas has been practising in Singapore for over ten years and acts for insurers across Asia Pacific, particularly those based in Singapore, S.E. Asia, Japan and South Korea. He also advises clients based in the London and European markets. internationally. Prior to joining Marsh, Sean was the Principal Officer and General Manager for the Asia region for a renowned local insurance broker. In addition to his role as the head of the company, he was also responsible for the development and servicing of a wide array of client portfolios involving high profile national projects, providing consulting to a global wholesale property and arge-scale projects in Asian region. Sean was also involved in providing technical assistance to the parent company.

Sean began his career at Marsh Malaysia in 2007 as Head of Business Development and served as Marsh Malaysia’s Specialty Leader and Deputy CEO. In his previous role as Deputy CEO, he works with his senior team to provide strategic client service delivery, insurance market liaison, risk management, and product development, delivering the full local and global resources of Marsh to clients.

Titus Samuel
Head of Power Generation and Utilities Asia, Chubb Asia Pacific

Titus is an energy and power generation industry professional with about 30 years experience, having started out in the onshore petrochemical design and construction industry with Japanese and French EPC contractors in the 1990s.

He subsequently moved to the power generation industry as a Gas Turbine Commissioning Engineer and after a few years of starting up power plants in various ‘lonely planet’ spots of the world, was made responsible for leading a large team of multi-discipline commissioning engineers for Alstom Power, in Asia Pacific.

Titus joined the insurance industry as a Risk Engineer in the Energy and PowerGen business in 2007. Ten years later, he decided to tweak his career again, but this time within Chubb and moved to the world of underwriting.

He is currently the Head of Power Generation for Chubb in Asia and is responsible for the underwriting of the Operational Power Generation portfolio for the region.
Brendan Dunlea
Regional Property and Engineering Manager, QBE Asia

Brendan joined QBE in May 2017 at the Asia Pacific Head of Engineering. He has since taken on the additional role of Regional Head of Property role. Before moving to Singapore. Prior to insurance, Brendan worked in various industries including petrochemical, industrial and real estate. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and the Australia New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF), Chairperson of the GIA Singapore Construction & Engineering Committee, and the IMIA representative for Asia.




Marcel Omar Papp
Head Retakaful, Swiss Re Asia Ltd. Malaysia Branch

Marcel Omar Papp is the Head of Retakaful at Swiss Re Malaysia Branch since 2009.

He was a member of the Management Committee of the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) from 2017 - 2023, and is a representative of the MTA in the Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3) and a representative of the General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) in the Malaysian Sustainable Finance Initiative (MSFI).

Marcel Omar came to Swiss Re Malaysia branch in February 2009 with the responsibility to set up and head the Retakaful operations, which has since become the global centre for Swiss Re’s Family and General Retakaful business leading the development of the firm’s Islamic Reinsurance business, products and processes worldwide.

Under his leadership, Swiss Re Retakaful has become a market leader in Southeast Asia and has won several ‘Best Retakaful operation’ awards. Prior to moving to Malaysia, Marcel Omar was based in Hong Kong and Singapore for ten years in various underwriting roles, including head of the Casualty Treaty Desk and Product Manager Casualty for Asia.

He started his career in insurance almost 30 years ago as a claims broker in the London market working for Willis. He then moved to Union Re (Zurich) working in Client Market and Underwriting functions before joining Swiss Re in 1998.

Marcel Omar holds a Master of Arts (Business Administration) from the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (A.C.I.I.) of London.
