Founded in 1968 as a non-profit organisation, The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) is the leading professional body and education institution for the Malaysian insurance industry. MII provides internationally recognised qualifications in insurance, risk management and financial planning. It is highly respected as a regional centre that offers an extensive range of quality education programmes and training courses for professionals in the insurance and financial services industry. Our History

MII has been in the industry for over 45 years in one form or another. Pusat Latihan Insurans Malaysia (PLIM) was formed in 1968 to provide training and education offerings to the Malaysian insurance fraternity. In the year 1977, Institut Insurans Malaysia (IIM) came into existence to provide networking activities and memberships for the Malaysian insurance industry. In 1984, The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) was formed through the merger of PLIM and IIM to synergise their roles for the betterment of the Malaysian insurance industry.

Our Recognitions

2013 marked 45 years since the first Institute was established and 2007 saw MII celebrated its first award as the Professional Service Provider of the Year, the most contested prestigious international award by all service providers at The Review Worldwide Reinsurance Award 2007 in London. MII was the first winner from Asia due its significant contribution to the emerging markets. In 2012, MII was awarded the Educational Service Provider of the Year, the highly sought- after international award by the Asian insurance fraternity at the 16th Asia Insurance Industry Awards 2012. The award recognises MII’s outstanding and continuous efforts in developing human capital development throughout the Asian region.

The excellent track records has also earned MII a seat on the Education Board of the Federation of Afro Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR) based in Egypt with 194 members from 52 countries across Africa and Asia.
                                                        
MII’s presence in the emerging market, particularly within the ASEAN region is prominently significant. In 2004, the 10 ASEAN insurance regulatory authorities formed the ASEAN Insurance Training & Research Institute (AITRI) as a channel of focused efforts and resources among regulators, industry and other supporters for the development of the ASEAN insurance markets and MII was given the honour to lead as the Secretariat of AITRI. AITRI is a non-profit organisation to provide regional research, insurance education and training support for the regulators as well as the industry of the ASEAN member countries. Throughout its presence, AITRI has gained great recognition and international support from various international bodies such as the World Bank (USA), International Association for Insurance Supervisors (Switzerland), Toronto Centre (Canada), among others. Khadijah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of MII has been awarded the Honorary Life Membership of the Institute of Risk Management from the Institute of Risk Management (IRM), UK starting year 2011. In 2012, Khadijah Abdullah also received the “Asia’s Leading Woman in Finance and Investment” award at the 2nd Women in Leadership Awards 2012 for her dedication to elevate professionalism of the insurance industry in Malaysia and other emerging markets.
