Introduction
Insurance contributes significantly facilitating economic activities,
trade, investment and development. Insurance facilitates savings for
capital formation and reduces risks inherent in all forms of businesses
and industries. Therefore, an efficient insurance market is one of the
pre-requisites for sustaining the economic progress of emerging
insurance markets, especially those adopting the "market
economy" approach to achieve rapid development.
The
insurance industry in emerging markets is faced with forces of change
ranging from IT to liberalization and globalization, and intensified
competition. The search for factors determining the competitive edge
therefore becomes critical. IT, capital, market linkages/ relationships
and customer base are examples of powerful competitive drives. However,
it is the Human Resource factor which can ultimately provide the truly
long term competitive advantage.
MII
educational training courses and programmes are thus designed to
support the urgent need of insurance companies to develop employees with
high level competencies to enhance their level of preparedness to meet
the challenges of operating in the 21st century.
